Maremegmeg is located below the chaotic El Nido, and is a paradise of tranquility most of the time. A home for us where we can recover from traveling and really settle for a bit. This beach is better known as 'Sunset Beach', as it is the only beach in the area where you can see the sunset. This means that every evening there is an arrival and exodus of people from El Nido who come to watch it. Wouter was here nine years ago, even then people came to look at the sunset, but there was only jungle next to the beach. Now there's resorts and restaurants, but the atmosphere remains relaxed.
What is special about this beach is that the sand in the water is coarse in texture and consists of worn-off pieces of shell. The sand above the waterline is very fine and soft, and the dividing line between the two types of sand is surprisingly tight. Furthermore, they are busy raking here all day long, so a beach doesn't get much cleaner than Maremegmeg Beach.
